Puppies arriving late fall/early winter 2022

I've started writing our story more than once because so many memories from our journey keep popping up in my thoughts. Amy and I live out in the country, some may call it, in the middle of nowhere but to us, it's home. We started building our home back in the fall of 2017 on just a little over 3 acres of land. Our home was completed in the spring of 2018. It took many hands but we got it done with the help of our family. Having a dog was on Amy's mind but I can assure everyone, it was the furthest thing in my mind. We had a four wheeler, plenty of back roads, wooded areas, creeks, etc. what more could you ask for.
Amy and I exercised practically everyday, went on long walks and we ate pretty healthy. For our ages, I was pretty well pleased with what we could accomplish. Then it happened, I got hurt at work. It messed my lower back up pretty good, along with my knee. I tried to keep exercising but the pain was getting to me. Amy kept walking from time to time by herself and I was good with it. We live in a safe neighborhood.
As for myself, I had extra minutes to consume parts of my day. I'll keep it short but for some reason, on one particular day, I decided to look up registered sex offenders in our county. I was blown away to find out there was one, just over 1 mile from our house. I couldn't find out enough information fast enough except this guy had burglarized and raped a woman. This was all the information I needed. I told Amy, no more walking unless you are carrying a gun.
This satisfied me, I guess, for a very short amount of time, like 1-2 walks. I started thinking, without saying a word to Amy, about getting a dog for protection. I quietly searched the internet, reading about different breeds and I kept finding myself going back to German Shepherds. I didn't know anything about working lines, dogs being imported, different bloodlines and the list goes on. I kept doing my homework on the German Shepherds, emailed a few breeders and spoke with a few.
It was time to let Amy in on my thoughts. She couldn't get the words out of her mouth fast enough, she was all about getting a puppy. I told her about the research that I had done, the different types of German Shepherds, the cost and she was already on her phone looking up toys and such for puppies.
We made arrangements to go tour a breeders place that was a couple hours away. Something inside me was saying this isn't the route you're supposed to go. But, we listened, looked and learned. You can always learn from both a positive experience and negative.
I had found a place out in Washington State that imported and sold adult German Shepherds and they also sold puppies. I came across Kraftwerk K9 early in my quest to learn and find out everything I could about German Shepherds. Amy wasn't sure about the investment it took, so I kept searching but every time, call it my gut, but I would get this feeling inside that we were supposed to go through Kraftwerk. I called them 2-3 times just to make sure I had my T's crossed and my I's dotted.
I continued sending pictures to Amy of puppies but I started including pictures and videos of adult dogs. Something inside was pushing me to getting an adult dog. I weighed out the pros and cons and I was ready to get one. Amy still needed more time. We always go with our gut and the feeling has to come from both of us.
We saw a male on Kraftwerk's website and we both wanted him. I called, asked some questions and wanted to think about it for a couple days. Well, you snooze-you lose. Now back to the drawing board. We were ready to actually buy an adult dog and we were not settling for ordinary. We were going top shelf, top drawer, no holds barred. It was like BAM one day - honey look at this female, here's a video, look at that male, he's one of a kind. I couldn't dial the phone number quick enough and to top it off, I was at work and so was Amy.
I called Kraftwerk and spoke to Wayne Curry. He went through every detail imaginable about the female and male we were looking at. They were his best imports and he went on telling us more about their owners in Germany and types of dogs they were. Like a bolt of lightening, we took them both. Holy Cow! We just bought, not one but two dogs and they'll be flying into Indianapolis on this date.
We didn't even have a place to put them, but here in a couple weeks they were coming. Amy bought a couple of huge crates and we went to the Amish and had a 1300sqft. building drawn up and laid out to our specs. We, once again, went all out. The "Doghouse" as we call it was going to have 3 pens for the dogs, they would have an outside kennel and an inside area. The doghouse would have a small garage, an office, the upstairs was going to have a large grooming area with a bathtub for the dogs, a washer/dryer, bathroom and to top it all off, the entire building would have central air and be heated.
We were off and running, let me tell you. It came time for Zikki and Yankee to be on their way to their new home, with us, here in Indiana. They were flying out of Washington and into Indy on a pretty nasty day. The roads were already slick and they were calling for ice and dropping temperatures. None of that really mattered because the arrangements had been made and we were excited.
Due to my unforgiving schedule at work, I was now unable to go with Amy to pick up the dogs from the airport. Amy quickly recruited my sister and her husband to make the journey. The entire family watched the flight on the internet throughout the day. It was going to be around a 5 hour flight. Amy took pictures throughout the day and sent them to me showing where the plane was in the sky and its altitude and mph. My niece went with them to the airport, her job was taking pictures and sending them to me at work. The two arrived safely and when I got home, I met them in our garage. Amy set up two large crates for each of them and with our garage heated, they were safe and sound and ready to be loved on.
Our new "doghouse" got delivered and boy was it huge coming down the road. After it was set in place, then the work began. We needed to run wire, plumb it up, insulation, drywall, heating and air, paint, flooring, finish trim, install the washer/dryer, dog bathtub, whew! and a few hundred more things.
It wasn't hardly two months after getting Zikki and Yankee that one evening we were on Kraftwerk's website and there was this jet black V rated female. She was unbelievable with every command that Wayne presented to her. Amy looked at me and I knew that look meant, I was to find out the details on her. I called Wayne and after 20 or so minutes on the phone, I said you better turn me over to Teresa, I'm going to be buying a dog. He laughed and what he said next was my confirmation that we had and were making the right decisions. he said that we had purchased the best dogs in the country and now we would be his competition. I was very honored to hear a man of his stature as breeder, competitor, trainer and overall showman, make these comments to us about the, now three dogs we had purchased.
Tilda made her way to Indianapolis and once again, I had to work. Amy recruited the crew to go along with her. We were all excited to see this female hit the ground. I'm not 100% positive but I believe she is the only V rated female in the U.S., I haven't seen or heard of another one. If there is others, I gladly will recognize their status as being right up there with Tilda's.
Progress kept getting made on the doghouse and soon everyone was moved into their very own private country club. We still have phase two and phase three of our model to complete. They include individual "doghouses" for the females and outside runs for everyone.
We purchased an additional 22 acres from my folks. That property connects right to ours and has a creek, Cornstalk Creek, that runs through the property and there's plenty of woods and room for the dogs to stretch. We have a 1.5 mile track that takes you across the creek and through the woods. The dogs can't get enough of it.
With Cornstalk Creek running through the property, it was only fitting that we name our place after it, Cornstalk Creek K9. Cornstalk comes from an Indian chief, Peter Cornstalk. Chief Peter Cornstalk's village of Snakefish (Eel River) tribe of Miami Indians was located just over the hill from our house along the creek. Wigwams and Indian burial ground were near the little Harshbarger family cemetery that is just a stones throw from our house. The Indians lived at peace with settlers moving here in the 1800's. It's pretty cool living on land with such history behind it.
Amy and I are just common country folks who put our faith in the Good Lord, we keep our family, friends and neighbors close and we are proud to live in the United States of America.
Thank you,
Randy & Amy Young
